Takhat Sri Hazur Sahib

Restoration and Beautification of the Fresco Artwork
Inside Takhat Sachkhand Sri Hazur Abchalnagar Sahib

Nanded, Maharashtra, India

April 2023 - Ongoing

The heritage conservation and restoration of the interior of Takhat Sahib Kar Sewa was initially undertaken by GNNSJ between 2000 and 2002. During this period, the fresco artwork within the four inner corridors and ceilings surrounding the sanctum sanctorum was restored and beautifully returned to its former glory.

However, over the past 21 years, the annual Takhat Ishnaan Sewa— where devotees cleanse the entire inner and outer Takhat Sahib complex using water from the sacred Godavari River—has led to water penetration in the lower sections of the fresco plaster of Paris walls. This moisture has caused significant deterioration, weakening the

plaster, with many areas of the fresco becoming hollow and easily crumbling into fine dust.
In 2022, former senior IPS officer Dr P S Pasricha, Administrator of Takhat Hazur Sahib, approached Bhai Sahib Mohinder Singh Ji, Spiritual Leader and Chairman of GNNSJ, to initiate urgent feasibility studies for restoration work at the Takhat Sahib.

The Kar Sewa of Takhat Sri Hazur Sahib commenced in April 2023 and is ongoing. Most of the lower sections of the walls surrounding the sanctum require complete restoration. Master craftsmen from across India have been engaged to carry out this historic project.
